How to edit settings for video/audio assignments

Group video/audio assignments

Medial doesn't work well with groups so please follow the instructions below to set up an assignment to work with Panopto for group video and audio assessments.

1. On the module page click Turn editing on (top right of the screen).

2. Find the 'Quercus' assignment link (under the 'Assessment' tab). To the right of this link, click Edit, then Edit settings.

3. The 'Assignment name' is not editable: this will automatically display on the module page. If the name is fundamentally incorrect, contact student.registry@solent.ac.uk. Add further detailed instructions to the 'Description' field.

4. Dates and times can be viewed in the 'Availability' section but are not editable. If they are incorrect contact student.registry@solent.ac.uk who will update Quercus; new dates will come through to SOL the next day.

  • Allow submission from - This does not need to be enabled; submissions are allowed as soon as the correct submission type has been selected.
  • Due date - This is the final submission date and the time is always 16:00.
  • Late submission - This is 5 working days after your due date and the time is always 16:00.
  • Remind me to grade by - This is the date that grading must be completed by (20 working days of the submission date).

5. In the 'Submission types' section, select Online text

6. Under the section 'Feedback types', select your feedback requirements; either Feedback comments and/or Feedback files

  • Double Marking enables two extra marks, from separate tutors, to be added to the student grading page, in addition to the final grade.
  • Sample allows specific assignments to be marked for inclusion as part of a moderated sample.
  • Academic misconduct allows a flag to show where academic misconduct is being investigated. This will not be shown to students. Where academic misconduct is suspected, please see the guidance on the Portal or email academic.misconduct@solent.ac.uk, ext: 6586.

7. Under 'Groups' select 'Yes' for 'Students submit in groups' and be sure to set the groups up.

Select 'Require all group members submit' so that only one member of the group needs to submit on behalf of the group:

8. It is the University's policy to implement anonymous marking by default but this can be disabled if specified in the module descriptor; the 'Anonymous marking' setting can be found in the 'Grade' section.

9. Click Save and display. All other options can be left as default.

Student instructions for submitting to SOL via Panopto

When recording in Panopto, the following settings should be set/enabled:

  • 'Folder' - The assessment folder for the module
  • 'Capture Main screen' and/or' Capture Powerpoint'

If the presentation is being held over Teams or some other video conferencing software, 'Capture Computer audio' needs to be set to capture voices of other members in the meeting.

Back in SOL the student should follow the usual process to add/edit a draft then:

Click the Panopto button:

Select the folder the recording was made to and the video from the list, then click 'Insert':

The video will be embedded in the text editor so click 'Save changes' and follow the rest of the submission process as usual:
