Audience Response Systems

Spiral

Spiral LogoSpiral gives presenters access to a variety of activities, with a focus on collaboration.  The lecturer sets up a lesson, which the students can access through their browser via a 'join code'.

As well as providing quizzes with a large number of question types, the system also allows students to respond to presentation slides via their mobile devices, and then comment on each other's responses.  Students can also be grouped into 'teams' to create their own slides, which can then be displayed on the main screen for others to comment on.

Pros:

  • Presentations and quizzes can be revealed to students in 'real-time' during a lesson, or set to 'open' and 'close' at a pre-set time as an assignment
  • Slides are easy to create, and the system allows the import of Powerpoint files
  • A wide variety of response types are available for quiz questions, e.g. students can draw or annotate answers to questions, or record their answer as an audio file.

Cons:

  • Free version is only available as a 60 day trial

Question types:

  • Open
  • Closed
  • Poll
  • Multiple Choice
  • Draw
  • Annotate
  • Record Audio
